About Grace:
Grace Mugabe CPA is an award-winning Accountant, money management advocate and speaker specialising in narrowing the financial information divide that acutely impacts minorities, particularly women and migrants. Her mission is to create a world where ALL under-represented people have equal opportunities to understand, earn and manage money.
In the years following the 2008 financial crisis, Grace walked away from a lucrative role in the mining sector to reroute her skills around financial literacy, and business development to help improve the earning potential and financial infrastructure of businesses and communities led by under-represented women, migrants, and other minorities.
Her venture:
Financially Empowered equips women, migrants and other under-represented groups with financial literacy skills. The goal is to create a world where all people have equal opportunities to understand, earn and manage money. Through Financially Empowered, Grace has worked with governments, schools, community organisations as well as the private sector.
Since ygap:
At the end of the First Gens program, Grace was awarded growth funding by ygap, in recognition of her hard work and the growth potential of her business. She returned as a mentor for the 2021 First Gens program, providing valuable insights to the new cohort. Grace has received wide recognition and acclaim for Financially Empowered and its community impact. Notably, she has been a finalist in the 2019 Women in Finance Awards ‘Women’s Community Program of the Year’, named in the 2020 list of Top 50 Small Business Leaders by Inside Small Business, and has been recognised as a 2021 AMP Tomorrow Maker.
